NORFOLK, Va., March 30, 2012 - In a neutral site matchup with the Delaware Blue Hens, the James Madison women's tennis team improved its record to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 6-1 victory on Friday.

The Dukes dropped the doubles point, falling in an early 1-0 hole, but rallied back to sweep singles competition and earn the win.

Doubles started off with Olivia Heim and Amanda Halstrom taking down the Dukes' Ruxandra Andriescu (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/Turner Fenton) and Megan Douglass (Wilton, Conn./St. Luke's) 8-5 in the No. 3 position, before Kinsey Pate (Matthews, N.C./Butler) and Taylor Pinchoff (Sylvan Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) knotted the battle for the doubles point, taking down Samantha Carnall and Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom 8-2 in the top doubles spot.  Courtney Fenimore and Dorothy Safron, however, grabbed the point for Delaware, overcoming Katherine Bulling (Loveland, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) and Michelle Nguyen (Springfield, Va./South County) 8-6 in No. 2 doubles.

The Dukes bounced back in singles play, sweeping all six points for the win.  Douglass got the scoring started for JMU at the No. 5 singles spot, toppling Milla in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.  Pate followed at No. 1 singles, edging by Carnall 6-4, 6-4, and Bulling downed Harrington 6-2, 6-4 in No. 6 singles to give JMU a 3-1 match lead.

With the match-point on the line, Fenimore took Nguyen three sets but the Dukes' junior prevailed, downing her Delaware foe 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, and giving JMU the win.

Jacqueline Palmucci (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail) followed in No. 2 singles, also working Safron in three sets before overcoming 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 for the Dukes' fifth point. Pinchoff completed the singles sweep, beating Sjoberg-Sundstrom in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 to finish the match.
