Women's Tennis Opens Home Schedule vs. Howard, Radford, St. Francis (Pa.)

HARRISONBURG, Va., March 12, 2012 - The James Madison women's tennis team opens its home schedule Tuesday, March 13 against Howard.  The Dukes will also host Radford on Friday and St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday.

JMU is 5-2 in the spring season and is currently on a three-match win streak. Four Dukes have recorded four or more singles wins so far this spring, including two players with a 5-2 record.  Junior Michelle Nguyen (Springfield, Va./South County), 5-2, has won her last three singles matches, dating back to Feb. 18 at Washington and Lee and sophomore Ruxandra Andriescu (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/Turner Fenton), 4-1, has won four-straight for JMU.  Junior Katherine Bulling (Loveland, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) leads the Dukes with a 5-2 spring doubles record and is currently on a three-game win streak.

Scouting the Dukes' opponents:

Howard - March 13, 2:30 p.m. - The Bison are 2-2 during the spring season with wins over St. John's, 4-3, on Feb. 18 and over District of Columbia, 7-0, on March 1.  Howard's losses have come at the hands of Old Dominion, 4-3, on Jan. 21 and Maryland, 7-0, on Jan. 24. 

Radford - March 16, 3 p.m. - The Highlanders are 10-4 this spring and currently ride a four-match win streak.  Like JMU, Radford has competed against Division III nationally-ranked Washington and Lee, Appalachian State, and Evansville.  Radford topped all three teams, defeating W&L, 7-2, Appalachian State, 4-3, and Evansville, 4-3.  Radford's most recent win came over North Dakota, 7-0, in Orlando, Fla.

St. Francis (Pa.) - March 18, 1 p.m. - The Red Flash are 2-9 in the spring season entering March 17 matches against Robert Morris and Mount St. Mary's.  Like JMU, St. Francis lost to ODU, 5-2.  The Red Flash are currently on a three-match losing streak with losses to ODU, Duquesne, 6-1, and most recently, Quinnipiac, 7-0.
