JMU WOMEN'S TENNIS TAKES 6-1 WIN AT GEORGE WASHINGTON

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 25, 2011 - Five players went 2-0 as the James Madison women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory at George Washington on Friday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Tennis Center.

The Dukes (8-5) picked up their sixth straight victory after sweeping doubles for the third consecutive match and taking five of six singles matches, four of which came in straight sets. The Colonials (10-5) lost for the third time in the last four matches.

Sophomore Megan Douglass (Wilton, Conn./St. Luke's) and freshman Jacqueline Palmucci (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail) defeated Isabella Escobar and Jennifer Hirsh 8-4 at No. 3 doubles to give JMU the early doubles advantage.

Freshman Ruxandra Andriescu (Brampton, Ontario/Turner Fenton) and sophomore Katherine Bulling (Loveland, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) sealed the point with an 8-6 win at No. 2 versus Julia Blakeley and Leah Pascarella.

JMU swept doubles with an 8-7 (8-6) victory at No. 1 by junior Kinsey Pate (Matthews, N.C./Butler) and sophomore Michelle Nguyen (Springfield, Va./South County) over Mimi Hamling and Zoe Krohn.

In singles, Palmucci doubled the Dukes' lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Pascarella at No. 3. The lead extended to 3-0 when Bulling took a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Hirsh at No. 5.

Pate won the decisive fourth point against Jacqueline Corba with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 1, and Nguyen gave the Dukes a 5-0 advantage after rallying to take a 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 victory versus Blakeley at No. 2.

The Colonials got on the board with a 6-0, 6-3 win by Dorota Lysienia against Andriescu at No. 6, and Douglass concluded the match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 4 over Hamling.

JMU returns to action tomorrow at Longwood, as Head Coach Maria Malerba will look to win her 400th career match at the helm of the Dukes. The match is set for a 3 p.m. start at Lancer Tennis Courts in Farmville, Va.
