HARRISONBURG, Va., March 17, 2011 - After rain cancelled Tuesday's home match, the James Madison women's tennis team (5-5) will officially open the spring's home slate with a pair of matches this weekend.
On Friday afternoon, the Dukes will host in-state foe Norfolk State (2-10) at 2:30 p.m., and the team will welcome Fordham (2-8) on Saturday at noon. Both dual matches will take place at Hillside Courts.
JMU is coming off a 3-1 showing on its Florida tour, with victories against Seton Hall (5-2, March 7), South Dakota (7-0, March 10) and Penn (5-2, March 11). Freshman Jacqueline Palmucci (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail) went 4-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles action on the week.
Norfolk State fell victim to Southern Miss after being swept 7-0 in Norfolk, Va., on March 10. After losing their first eight dual matches, the Spartans have split in the last four going 2-2 with wins against North Carolina A & T (6-1, March 4) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (7-0, March 5).
Fordham lost both matches earlier this week, falling 4-3 to both Loyola (Md.) and Colonial Athletic Association foe Towson in Baltimore on Wednesday and Thursday. The Rams are 1-5 away from home this season.
