NORFOLK, Va., April 20, 2012 - After defeating 11th-seeded George Mason 4-0 on Thursday, the sixth-seeded James Madison women's tennis team fell to No. 3 seed and 63rd-ranked Georgia State 4-0 in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 Virginia 529 Colonial Athletic Association Women's Tennis Championships. With the loss, the Dukes finish their season at 12-6.
The Dukes started off losing a tightly-contested doubles point. Maryna Kozachenko and Whitney Byrd got the Panthers on the board first, defeating JMU's Michelle Nguyen (Springfield, Va./South County) and Katherine Bulling (Loveland, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) 8-6, at No. 2. At No. 1, the CAA Player of the Year Abigail Tere-Apisah teamed up with Tereza Lerova to earn a 9-7 win over Kinsey Pate (Matthews, N.C./Butler) and Taylor Pinchoff (Sylvan Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) to earn the doubles point for GSU.
In singles play, Tere-Apisah again carried the Panthers, earning Georgia State's second point with a win over Pate, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1. At No. 6, Roudami beat Bulling, 6-2, 6-2, to make it a 3-0 match in favor of the Panthers. Byrd sealed the deal at No. 3 singles. She defeated Nguyen 6-0, 6-4, advancing the Panthers to the semifinals.
