Women's Basketball's Burkholder Named CAA Player of the Week

Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) has been named Colonial Athletic
Association women's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 6.
The Dukes guard was honored for her play in JMU's wins over Georgia Southern on
Dec. 31 and at North Carolina Wilmington on Jan. 6.
Burkholder poured in a career- and game-high 27 points in a 93-44 home victory
over Georgia Southern. She shot 75
percent (9-12) from the field, including 66.7 percent (6-9) from 3-point range.
Burkholder also made a game-high four
steals and grabbed eight rebounds.
In a 60-39 win at UNCW Burkholder had game highs of 15 points and three steals,
along with nine rebounds and a season-high three assists.
She ranks eighth in the CAA in both scoring (14.9) and rebounding (7.6) and
leads the CAA and ranks 15th in the NCAA in free-throw percentage (89.2). Burkholder also is third in the league and
27th in the NCAA in 3-point average (2.85).
JMU takes a four-game winning streak and a three-game home winning streak into
a Jan. 10 game vs. Drexel at the JMU Convocation Center. The Dukes' overall record is 7-6, and JMU is
1-0 in CAA play.
