HARRISONBURG, Va., March 5, 2013 - James Madison sophomore right-hander Patrick Toohers (Florham Park, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Pitcher of the Week following his performance Friday vs. Hartford.
Toohers worked seven innings in JMU's 11-3 win over the Hawks and allowed just one run on two hits with one walk. He struck out a career-high seven batters and faced just one batter over the minimum in his seven innings as two of the three batters to reach were erased on stolen base attempts.
The award is the third career CAA honor for Toohers, who was also named CAA Pitcher of the Week on April 23, 2012 and CAA Rookie of the Week on April 30, 2012. He shared this week's honors with UNCW sophomore Jordan Ramsey, who threw 6 2/3 shutout innings but did not factor into the decision in a 2-0 loss to San Diego.
The JMU staff ace improved to 1-2 this season with a 6.06 ERA and 11 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .262 against him in 16 1/3 innings.
Toohers and the Dukes return to the field this weekend to open Colonial Athletic Association play with a three-game home set against Hofstra. Friday's first pitch is slated for 4 p.m. with 2 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday.
