POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The James Madison University men’s golf team is in 10th after the first round of the 2013 Old Dominion/OBX Collegiate, Oct. 20. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at Kilmarlic Golf Club (Par 71 – 6,550 yards) in Powells Point, N.C.
The Dukes posted a 16-over 300 in the first 18 holes and is 14 shots behind opening round leader Elon at 2-over 286. Radford is in second at 289,with host Old Dominion, Marshall and Hartford all tied for third at 6-over 290. In all just 15 shots separate first from 11th after the first round of the tournament.
Junior Jon Weiss (Florence, S.C./Sumter (Newberry)) is the top Madison player through 18 holes after a 1-over 72 put him in a tie for 14th. Freshman Ryan Cole (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) is next at 3-over 74 in a tie for 30th,with junior Trey Smith (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) one shot back at 4-over 75, tied for 35th. Sophomore Chris Kapsak (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) is next at 8-over 79 in a tie for 64th, with freshman Poom Pattaropong (Minburi, Bangkok, Thailand/Heritage Academy (S.C.)) tied for 70th at 9-over 80. Marshall’s Logan Lagodich is the individual leader at 2-under 69, one shot ahead of seven players tied at 1-under 70.
The second round will start at 8:30 a.m., with teams going off with tee times from the No. 1 and 10 tees.
