HARRISONBURG, Va., June 13, 2013 – The incoming freshmen class for James Madison women’s tennis received honorable mention from the Tennis Recruiting Network as one of the top mid-major recruiting classes for 2013-14.
“We are very excited for our incoming freshmen class. With the addition of Sarah Khan, who was not included in the Tennis Recruiting Network’s poll, we will be even stronger,” head coach Maria Malerba asserted.
The Dukes will welcome freshmen Rachel Nelson (Big Prairie, Ohio/West Holmes), Alexandra Huie (Woodlands, Texas/Woodlands) and Emily Bradshaw (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada/Blyth Academy) to campus this fall. Both Nelson and Huie were ranked as four-star recruits in the United States.
Sarah Khan (Islamabad, Pakistan/Overseas Pakistani Foundation College (New Mexico)) will transfer to JMU from the University of New Mexico. After redshirting as a freshman, Khan went 11-14 in singles play during her first collegiate campaign last season, including 8-10 in spring duals. In doubles competition, she went 11-14 overall and 7-11 with three partners.
James Madison was one of just two Colonial Athletic Association teams that received votes in the poll. Conference-rival William & Mary also received honorable mention for its recruiting class of two.
Houston topped the mid-major poll with Southern Methodist and Brigham Young close behind in second and third place, respectively. Furman and Denver rounded out the top five.
