HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah Valley Duke Club chapter hosted its first Poker Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 16, as a fundraiser for James Madison University's Duke Club. Held at Early's Katering, the chapter exceeded expectations with 70 participants and raising $7,000 for the Duke Club.
Through the hard work of the Shenandoah Valley reps, the chapter secured sponsorships, raffle items, as well as, recruit participants, many of which were not Duke Club members. Planning for this event began in the fall with the securing of sponsorships, volunteers, dealers and a tournament manager. Each participant was able to get a barbeque lunch, snacks and drinks throughout the day, along with participating in the raffle. The event began at 9 a.m. and lasted till 5:30 p.m.
"I want to thank everyone in the chapter to make this event happen," Donna Harper, President of the Shenandoah Valley Duke Club Chapter, said. "Thanks to our sponsors and participants, we were able to raise roughly $13,000 and be able to donate $7,000 back to the Duke Club for student-athlete scholarships, which exceeded our expectations."THANK YOU TO THIS YEAR'S POKER TOURNAMENT SPONSORS Eagle Carpet | Funkhouser Real Estate Group | Jim Forkovich | Bob Golson | Donna Harper | Steve Heitz
