HARRISONBURG, Va., Feb. 12, 2013 – James Madison University field hockey head coach Antoinette Lucas announced the signing of Colleen Andrews (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) to a national letter of intent Tuesday.
“We signed Colleen Andrews because of her talent and work ethic,” Lucas said. “We felt that Colleen would go through a brick wall for her teammates and would do everything possible to positively contribute to our team’s success. We expect Colleen will compete in the backfield for us. She is a smart player and capable of making quality decisions. I believe that Colleen will adapt quickly to the pace of Division I hockey. She has competed against the best junior players in the nation within the U.S. Field Hockey developmental programs, which should help her transition to Division I play.”
Andrews joins Madison out of Lancaster Mennonite School in Lancaster, Pa. As a senior, she was team captain and earned First Team All-State. She was named Lancaster-Lebanon League Defensive MVP as well as First Team All-League. Nationally, Colleen is a two-time Futures Elite selection and was named a Future Elite Championship athlete. She participated in the AAU Junior Olympics and was a four-year player on Sutter’s Brigade and Simply Select club teams.
Andrews joins a team that went 11-8 overall and 4-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Dukes return 10 starters and only graduate three players from the 2012 team that reached the CAA semifinals.
