WILLIAMSBURG, Va., Jan. 19, 2012 - James Madison men's soccer coach Tom Martin has been named the 2011 Virginia Coach of the Year, and four Dukes' players have been named to the All-State Team.

The All-State honors were determined in a vote by members of the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Dukes earning all-state honors included junior midfielder Paul Wyatt (Modbury, England/Ivybridge), senior forward Patrick Innes (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) and redshirt senior goalkeeper Justin Epperson (Herndon, Va./Oakton) on the First Team and senior defender Jason Gannon (Vienna, Va./Flint Hill) on the Second Team.

Martin, the 2011 Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year, guided JMU to a 13-5-2 record, first place in the CAA regular-season standings and the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament.  JMU led Virginia teams in winning percentage and was the only state team ranked in the NCAA Top 30 in winning percentage.  The Dukes ranked 23rd in the final Soccer America Top 25 and 20th in the final NSCAA Coaches Top 25 and was the highest-ranked Virginia team in both polls.

Innes was the second-leading scorer in Virginia with 13 goals.   He was selected to the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region Second Team and the All-CAA Second Team.  He ranked among the top-16 players in the NCAA in goals and points average (1.53).

Epperson was an NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region Third Team selection.  He led the CAA in shutouts (9) and shutout average (0.45) and his nine season shutouts ranks fourth-best all-time at JMU.  Epperson played all of the team's 1848:24 minutes in goal in 2011.

Gannon, a four-year starter, helped anchor a Dukes' defense that recorded nine shutouts and a 1.22 goals-against average.  He also was named to the  All-CAA Third Team.

Wyatt ranked second on the JMU team in goals (6) and points (15) and was named to the NSCAA All-America Second Team, the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region First Team and the All-CAA First Team.
