Men's Soccer Team Wins JMU Athletics Community Service Award

HARRISONBURG, Va., April 25, 2011 - James Madison University's men's soccer team was presented the Intercollegiate Athletics' Exemplary Community Service Award Monday during JMU's annual student-athlete awards banquet.

The men's soccer team was selected from among JMU's 18 intercollegiate sports teams for making community service a priority and tradition and taking part in numerous projects during the last year.  The team accumulated nearly 200 hours of community service activities.

Among the activities and organizations in which the team was involved were the following

- Clymore Elementary Welcome Back Carnival
- WHSV/TV3 Children's First Day
- Skyline Middle School African American Read-In & Language Arts Program
- Boys and Girls Club Volunteer Work
- Boys and Girls Club Valley Soccer Camp Scholarships
- Meet the Dukes
- Big Brothers & Big Sisters

Other team nominees for the community service award were baseball, field hockey, lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, women's tennis and volleyball.
