WILLIAMSBURG, Va., Jan. 27, 2011 -- James Madison senior CJ Sapong (Manassas, Va./Forest Park) has been selected the 2010 Virginia men's soccer Player of the Year.
Sapong, also the 2010 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, led Virginia and CAA players in points (33) and assists (9) and was the Virginia and CAA co-leader in goals (12).
The College Soccer News All-America was a four-time All-CAA First Team selection. He was the 10th overall pick in the 2011 Major League Soccer Superdraft, where he was picked by Sporting Kansas City.
The state honor was voted by members of the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association. VaSID also selected Virginia freshman Brian Span Rookie of the Year and William and Mary's Chris Norris Coach of the Year.
Sapong was named to the VaSID All-State First Team, and Dukes' sophomore midfielder Paul Wyatt (Modbury, England/xxxx) was voted to the All-State Second Team.
Wyatt, a two-time All-CAA honoree, ranked second on JMU's team in goals (5) and points (13) in 2010.
