SIUE's Jared Tejada scored in the 35th minute to give his team its second win in the tournament. The Cougars beat tournament host Virginia Tech 3-1 on Friday.
Each team had seven shots, and Cougars goalkeeper John Berner made three saves to get the shutout. JMU redshirt junior goalkeeper Colin Newcity (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) finished with two saves.
The Dukes (0-2-0) open their home slate Friday, Aug. 31, when JMU hosts the first round of the JMU/Fairfield Inn by Marriott Invitational Tournament at University Park. Virginia Tech plays Temple at 5 p.m., followed by JMU vs. St. Bonaventure at 7:30 p.m. Admission to JMU regular-season games is free.
