HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madison track & field squad will take on the Virginia Tech Challenge Feb. 15 and 16 in Blacksburg, Va.  Competition gets underway at 5 p.m. on Friday and resumes at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at Rector Fieldhouse.

Virginia Tech will host both men's and women's track & field events, kicking off the meet with the women's long jump and 600-meter run at 5 p.m. Feb. 15.  On Saturday, field events will start with the women's high jump at 11 a.m., and races will begin at 1 p.m. with the 800-meter run.

The Dukes make their way to Virginia Tech for the second time this indoor season in the hopes of qualifying several more athletes for competition at the Eastern College Athletic Conference indoor championships held March 1-3, 2013.  Madison currently has athletes qualified for competition in eight different events.

Last week, freshman Adrienne Alexander (Queens, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and sophomore DaQuaa Scott (Stuanton, Va./Robert E. Lee) added shot put to the list of ECAC-qualified events with their tosses of 13.66 meters and 13.53 meters, respectively, at the Liberty Quad.  Alexander won the event, her first individual collegiate, with the third-longest toss in school history.

Scott, who finished third in the shot put, won the weight throw competition with an ECAC-qualifying 16.84-meter toss.  She previously qualified for the ECACs on Feb. 2 at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup with a JMU-record heave of 17.65 meters in the weight throw.

Senior Marissa McDonald (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) won the 60-meter dash at the Liberty Quad with a time of 7.65 seconds, surpassing the ECAC standard of 7.68 seconds.  However, McDonald punched her ticket to the indoor championship meet at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup on Feb. 2 with a time of 7.63 seconds.
