RICHMOND, Va. (March 28, 2012) - James Madison's Nicole Sakamoto has been named CAA Women's Golfer of the Week honors after earning medalist honors at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic. This is the second time this year that Sakamoto has earned the league's weekly honor, as she garnered the award after finishing as runner up at the season-opening Golfweek Division I Challenge.
Sakamoto, a senior, posted rounds of 70-70-72 (-4) on the
6,106 yard, par-72 layout at River Landing Golf Course. Her three-round score of 4-under tied the Dukes' school record for a 54-hole event, set by former JMU
golfer and current Old Dominion head coach Carol Robertson during the 2003-04
season, while the 212 total is tied for the second lowest 54-hole total as Sakamoto set a new record with a 2-under 211 in the Golfweek Division I Challenge.
It was Sakamoto's third collegiate victory and first since 2010, as well as her fourth top-five and fifth top-10 finish in nine events this year. Sakamoto and the Dukes finished in fifth place of 11 teams in the event.
