Women's Golf In Fourth After Two Rounds of JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational

ORANGE PARK, Fla. - The James Madison University women's golf team posted its best-ever round in its home tournament and remains fourth after the second round of the 2013 JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational, March 9. The three-day, 54-hole event is being played at Eagle Landing at Oakleaf Plantation (Par 72 - 6,282 yards) in Orange Park, Fla., just outside of Jacksonville.

The Dukes improved one shot in the second round for an 8-over 296 and are currently at 15-over 593, the second straight sub-300 round and second time Madison has broken 300 in the four-plus year history of its tournament. Madison trails second-round leader Campbell by 10 shots at 5-over 583, with Elon in second at 12-over 590. East Carolina rallied in the second 18 and moved up to third at 11-over 591, followed by JMU and Chattanooga in fifth at 19-over 597.

 Freshman Karishma Thiagaraj (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) continues to lead the JMU scoring after a 1-over 73 in the second round put her in a tie for fourth at even-par 144. Sophomore Maria Andrea Legaspi (Quezon City, Philippines/St. Paul College-Pasig) is next in a tie for 11th at 4-over 149 after her second-consecutive 2-over 74. Junior Ginger Mak (North Point, Hong Kong/The International School of Macao) also had a 1-over 73 and moved up to a tie for 22nd at 6-over 150, while sophomore Shabril Brewer (Herndon, Va./Westfield) is one shot back at 7-over 151, tied for 31st.Sophomore Nikola Wessels (Muenster, Germany/Marienschule Muenster) is tied for 92nd at 26-over 170. Playing as an individual, freshman Kelsey Solan (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) is tied for 90th at 24-over 168.

East Carolina's Frida Gustaffson Sprang shot her second under-par round of the tournament, posting a 2-under 70 and is the individual leader at 5-under 139. Campbell's Tahnia Ravnjak also posted a second under-par round, this one a 1-under 71 and she is in second at 3-under 141.

The final round will be played off the No. 1 and 10 tees again, with Madison playing with Chattanooga and Mississippi State off the No. 1 tee starting at 8:40 a.m.
