Women's Golf In 16th Late In Second Round of Hurricane Invitational

MIAMI, Fla. (February 4, 2013) - The James Madison University women's golf team struggled on the opening day and is in 16th late in the second round of the 2013 Hurricane Invitational, Feb. 4. The teams were unable to complete the second round due to darkness, as the two-day, 54-hole event is being played at Deering Bay Yacht and Country Club (Par 71 - 6,007 yards) in Miami, Fla.

The Dukes posted a 43-over 327 in the first round and are currently at 38-over in their second round, having completed between 14-16 holes among the players. No. 48 Texas State is leading the field at 17-over, with No. 23 Baylor four shots back at 21-over. No. 11 Oklahoma State is third at 28-over, with host Miami (29-over) and Iowa (33-over) rounding out the top five teams.

Madison is led by junior Ginger Mak (North Point, Hong Kong/The International School of Macao) , who shot a 1-over 72 in the first round and is currently 8-over for the tournament in a tie for 23rd. Sophomore Maria Andrea Legaspi (Quezon City, Philippines/St. Paul College-Pasig)  is next at 15-over in a tie for 53rd. Fellow sophomores Shabril Brewer (Herndon, Va./Westfield) and Nikola Wessels (Muenster, Germany/Marienschule Muenster)  are next in a tie for 81st (26-over) and 87th (32-over), respectively, while freshman Kelsey Solan (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley)  is in 88th at 35-over. Oklahoma State's Kelsey VInes is the currently leader at 3-under, with Texas State's Krista Pulsite two shots back at 1-under.

The final four holes of the second round will resume at 8 a.m. ET Tuesday with the final round following.
