HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madison University women's golf team has signed Nicola Haynes (Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England) to a National Letter of Intent, Head Coach Paul Gooden announced today. She will enter JMU as a freshman for the 2013-14 academic year.

In 2012, she won the St. Andrews Junior Ladies Open, Girls North of England Schools Championship and Northumberland Ladies County Championship. She placed 18th on the England Girls Order of Merit for the 2012 season and represented England in the school's international match against Wales. She also had previously won the Northumberland U-18, U-21 and match play championships. She also played three other sports for her high school, as she participated in tennis, netball and field hockey. The daughter of Shelia and Simon Haynes, both doctors, Nicola plans to major in chemistry at JMU.

"I am very happy to have Nicola as a team member next season," Gooden said. "She is very talented and will make an immediate impact on our program.  Nicola's experience playing in major golf competitions will have her well prepared to play college golf as a freshman."

The Dukes have wrapped up their fall schedule and will next be on the course Mon.-Tue., Feb. 4-5 at the University of Miami Invitational. The tournament will be held at the Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club in Miami, Fla.
