SOUTHPORT, N.C. -- The James Madison women's golf team slipped during the second round and is in second through 36 holes of the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golf Championship, April 21. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at St. James Plantation Reserve Club (Par 72 - 6,066 yards) in Southport, N.C.

Team and individual scores were higher on the second day, with the field averaging 1.17 strokes more per player in the 53-player field. Playing in the second wave off No. 1, the fourth-seeded Dukes struggled on the day and had a team total of 318 to post a two-round score of 36-over 612. Madison is seven shots behind UNCW who shot a 305 in the second round and is at 29-over 605. Old Dominion is tied for third with Xavier, one shot back at 37-over 613. Top-seeded Georgia State is in fifth at 40-over 616.

Senior Nicole Sakamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kalani) shot a 4-over 76 in the second round and is tied for second at 3-over 147 with UNCW's Sofia Hagsund. The pair trails Charlotte Lorentzen of Georgia State, who shot a tournament-low 3-under 69 in her second round and is at even-par 144. Sophomore Ginger Mak (North Point, Hong Kong/The International School of Macao) also shot a 4-over 76 and moved up to a tie for 12th at 11-over 155. Freshmen Maria Andrea Legaspi (Quezon City, Philippines/St. Paul College-Pasig) and Shabril Brewer (Herndon, Va./Westfield) are tied for 16th at 12-over 156, with freshman Nikola Wessels (Muenster, Germany/Marienschule Muenster) tied for 30th at 18-over 162.

The final round will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., with JMU playing with UNCW and Old Dominion, with the group starting on holes 1-5.
