Duke Club Recognizes Its 2013 Volunteers

HARRISONBURG, Va. – At the Duke Club Volunteer Weekend, January 24-25, the James Madison University Duke Club honored their 2013 Volunteers with their Annual Awards.

The Duke Club serves as the official fundraising arm for James Madison Athletics; providing support for student-athlete scholarships and the general operating budget. In 2013, the Duke Club had a banner year, with 2,783 members contributing over $1.9 million in support.

Though directed by six full-time staff members, the Duke Club relies upon its members for assistance and support in recruitment, engagement, and fundraising initiatives throughout the year. These volunteers spent thousands of hours, collectively, working on efforts across not just Virginia, but the Country as well.

2013 recipients for recognition included:

Event of the Year: Shenandoah Valley Duke Club Poker Tournament
Chapter of the Year: Shenandoah Valley
Lifetime Achievement Award: Donna Harper (Shenandoah Valley)

All “Iron Dukes” Team: Donna Harper (Shenandoah Valley), Bob Golson (Shenandoah Valley), Dick Mason (Shenandoah Valley), Barry Saadatmand (Richmond), Steve Brown (Richmond), Craig Phaup (Peninsula), Cam Miller (Tidewater), Hal Yuill (Tidewater), Jason Murphy (Tidewater), Mike Glover (Tidewater), Connor Butler (Student Duke Club), Erik Pitzer (Shenandoah Valley),Kevin Kelly (NOVA), Zac Hittie (Shenandoah Valley)

Dave Biancamano, Associate Athletic Director for Fundraising and External Development, commented, “without these individuals and our over 2,700 members, the mission of the Duke Club in providing world class opportunities for student-athletes in competition and the classroom would be painstakingly difficult to achieve. On behalf of all our 18 teams, Coaches, Administrators, and 400 plus student-athletes, we thank you for your efforts!”
