WILLIAMSBURG, Va., April 18, 2013 – Freshman Robert Stirling (Caboolture, Australia/St. Columbans College) was named the Colonial Athletic Association men’s tennis Rookie of the Year award for 2013, the league announced at tonight’s championship banquet.  The honor is voted on by a committee of league coaches.

Also earning All-CAA Third Team honors, Stirling finished the regular season with a 10-7 record at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, including wins in seven of his last nine matches. He was also 4-1 against CAA opponents this spring.  He is just the third Duke to earn the CAA Rookie of the Year title and the first since 2008 when Jared Robinson took home the honor.  In 1994, Cullen de Windt became the first JMU player to receive the honor.

Stirling and senior Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/Braemar (Chattanooga)) were named to the All-CAA Second Team for doubles after completing the spring season with a 6-9 record at No. 1 doubles.

Pool was the lone Duke tabbed for the All-CAA First Team in 2013.  He tallied an 11-6 record during the spring, all at No. 1 singles, and went 7-2 in his final 10 duals.  It is the first all-conference honor of his career at JMU.

Senior Hugo Ramadier (Paris, France/Lycee Francais Chateabriand (Northern Arizona)) earned All-CAA Second Team honors for the first time in his collegiate career.  He posted a 6-3 record in his final 10 spring matches to head into the conference tournament with a 7-6 record.

Fellow senior Greg Vladimirsky (Staten Island, N.Y./Broward School) picked up All-CAA Third Team honors alongside Stirling.  He is riding a six-match win-streak into the league championship tournament after going 10-8 overall this spring and 4-1 against conference foes.

No.3 JMU faces off with No. 6 Hofstra on Friday, April 19 at noon in the quarterfinal round of the 2013 CAA Tennis Championships.  The tournament is hosted by William & Mary and held at the Millie West Tennis Facility.  The Dukes defeated the Pride on the road this season, winning 6-0 on Feb. 15.
