Men's Tennis Picks Up Nine Wins on First Day of UVA Fall Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Oct. 5, 2012 -- James Madison men's tennis gave a strong effort on the first day of the 2012 UVA Fall Classic, collecting nine victories in 15 matches played.

As the No. 2 seed in the Black Singles flight, senior Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/Braemar (Chattanooga)) went 2-0 on the day as he defeated Liberty's Egon Samaii 6-2, 6-4 and Penn State's Matt Barry 6-3, 6-1 to move into the semifinals.  Pool is now a perfect 9-0 in the 2012 fall tournament season.

Senior Hugo Ramadier (Paris, France/Lycee Francais Chateabriand (Northern Arizona)) also went 2-0 on day one to move on to the Red Singles flight semifinals on Saturday.  His first victory came against Norfolk State's Igor Braga in a 6-3, 6-2 sweep.  In the quarterfinals, Ramadier battled to a 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 victory over third-seeded Juan Ramirez of East Tennessee State University.

Also participating in the Red Singles flight, freshman Robert Stirling (Caboolture, Australia/St. Columbans College) lost in his round-of-16 match against Coastal Carolina's Garik Yedigarian 6-2, 6-4, but bounced back for a 6-1, 7-5 win over Morgan State's Evan Ward.

The two-seed in the White Singles flight, senior Greg Vladimirsky (Staten Island, N.Y./Broward Virtual) defeated Penn State's Ramy Labna 6-3, 6-1 in the round-of-16 before falling to Richmond's Dylan Trent 7-5, 7-5.

Vladimirsky contributed a second win for the Dukes on Friday, joining fellow senior Florent Sentenac (Borderes, France/Lycee Theophile Gautier (Auburn Montgomery)) in doubles for an 8-4 win against George Washington's Ulrik Thomsen and Leonardo Lapentti in the Gold Doubles quarterfinals.  Sentenac added his own singles win to the day when he overcame Guilleme Secanel (Liberty) 6-1, 4-6, 10-4.

The second day of the UVA Fall Classic begins with singles competition in the morning and an afternoon slate of doubles matches.  Match play is set to start at 9 a.m.
