HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madison men's tennis team will begin its fall campaign this Friday at the ECU Fall Shootout in Greenville, N.C.
The three-day event will see the Dukes compete against Richmond and East Carolina in a tournament style of play as they get back into competition mode.
"We're just excited to compete against someone other than ourselves," Head Coach Steve Secord explains. "The guys have been working hard on the court and in the gym, and it will be good to see how we compare against other solid teams."
JMU will use the fall season to solidify individual games leading up to the spring season, which is more about teamwork on the courts.
"We just want to start competing hard. We will see what is working or is still rusty for each individual, then work on the weak areas in practice next week," Secord says. "The fall is usually more about the individual where the spring has us competing as a team. Events like the ECU Fall Shootout have a little more of a team feel, which is a nice way to start."
The men's tennis roster boasts six seniors and two freshmen for the 2012-13 season, including senior Greg Vladimirsky (Staten Island, N.Y./Broward Virtual). Vladimirsky was named 2012 Second Team All-CAA for his singles competition for the second year in a row, as well as Third Team All-CAA doubles squad with former teammate Bertrand Moulin.
The Dukes will play two more tournaments this fall before wrapping up the fall tournament season at the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regionals in Charlottesville, Va., Oct. 17-Oct. 21.
