RICHMOND, Va., April 7, 2012 - After falling to George Washington on Friday 5-2, the James Madison men's tennis team defeated Richmond 4-3 on Saturday. The win improved the Dukes to 9-9 on the season while the Spiders fell to 10-9.
The decisive point of the match was in fact the first one earned. JMU picked up the doubles point, defeating Richmond two matches to one.
In No. 1 doubles, the Dukes' senior/junior pair of Bertrand Moulin (Lyon, France/Aux Lazaristes Minimes(Wayne State)) and Greg Vladimirsky (Coral Springs, Fla./Broward Virtual) downed Sebastien Fauchet and Jesse Fader 8-5. Madison earned the doubles point after No. 2 singles where juniors Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/Braemar(Chattanooga)) and Florent Sentenac (Borderes, France/Lycee Theophile Gautier(Auburn Montgomery)) topped Aaron Wicker and Dylan Trent 9-7.
In No. 3 doubles, the Spiders' Paul Nahon III and Ethan Dunbar earned the win over JMU's senior/junior pair of Tommi Nissinen (Oulu, Finland/Kastellin Lukio) and Hugo Ramadier (Rome, Italy/Lycee Francais Chateabriand (Northern Arizona)) 8-2.
The Dukes earned singles points in the Nos. 2, 4 and 6 matches. At No. 2, Pool downed Fauchet in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Ramadier also earned a straight-set victory over Wicker. He won 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 4 spot. The Dukes' final singles point came in No. 6 singles, another three-set match. Nissinen downed Trent, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, to earn the Dukes' victory.
In singles play, the Dukes and the Spiders split the six matches. At No.1, Dunbar and Vladimirsky went the distance before Dunbar prevailed. He earned the three-set victory, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4. In No. 3, Sentenac fell to Feder, also in three sets, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3. The Spiders earned their final point with the No. 5 singles match. Nahon topped Moulin in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
JMU returns to action on Tuesday April 10 with its final Colonial Athletic Association competition before CAA Championships. The Dukes take on George Mason at 3 p.m. on the Hillside Tennis Courts.
