HARRISONBURG, Va., March 20, 2012 - The James Madison men's tennis team hosts a pair of matches this week. The Dukes take on Liberty Tuesday at 2 p.m. and Longwood on Sunday at 11 a.m.
JMU enters the week's competition at 5-6, coming off a 6-1 defeat of St. Francis (Pa.) on March 18. The Dukes have five players with five or more singles wins including two with seven or more. Two Madison doubles teams also have five or more wins.
Liberty enters the contest at 10-3 on the season having won their last seven matches. The win streak is the third-longest in program history and their 10 wins marks the fourth-consecutive season recording double-digit wins, another first for the program. Liberty has built upon a strong freshman class that was ranked in the top-25 last year. Jorge Azuero , Wayne Harrell and Dillon Segur have gone a combined 20-7 in singles play as well as 14-5 in doubles play for the Flames.
Longwood is 5-6 on the season, coming off a 4-3 win over Presbyterian on March 14. The Lancers have also recorded wins over Richmond (4-3), Norfolk State (6-1) Hampton (7-0) and UMBC (4-0). The Dukes have met the Lancers in each of the last five seasons with JMU holding a 3-2 lead in that span, including wins in 2010 and 2011.
