JMU Men's Tennis Cruises to 7-0 Sweep of Howard

HARRISONBURG, Va., April 6, 2011 - James Madison swept doubles and won each singles match in straight sets to take a 7-0 men's tennis victory against Howard on Wednesday afternoon at Hillside Courts.

Five JMU players went 2-0 with victories in both singles and doubles as the Dukes (10-5) won for the fourth straight time, while the Bison (6-8) fell for the first time in three matches.

In doubles play, JMU dropped only three games en route to claiming the doubles point. Sophomore Greg Vladimirsky (Coral Springs, Fla./Broward Virtual) and junior Bertrand Moulin (Lyon, France/Aux Lazaristes Minimes (Wayne State)) blanked George Diggs and Omar Haloui, 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Sophomore Florent Sentenac (Borderes, France/Lycee Theophile Gautier (Auburn Montgomery)) and senior Yaroslav Voznenko (Kherson, Ukraine/Kherson Technical) clinched the doubles point for the Dukes with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 against Bogdan Dzakovic and Devard Wharton.

JMU completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 decision at No. 2 favoring senior Matt King (Lorton, Va./Robinson (Old Dominion)) and sophomore Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/Braemar (Chattanooga)) over Eric Chavous and Tonique Merrell.

On the singles side, no Duke dropped more than six games total in the straight set victories. Sentenac doubled JMU's lead to 2-0 when he defeated Diggs, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3. Junior Jovan Milic (Belgrade, Serbia/Belgrade Sports School) upped the team lead to 3-0 after downing Merrell, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5. Moulin gave the Dukes the decisive fourth point and match victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 against Wharton.

Voznenko won 6-3, 6-3 versus Dzakovic at No. 6 and Pool took a 6-2, 6-2 victory from Chavous at No. 4. Vladimirsky closed out the dual match at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Haloui to give JMU the 7-0 win.

The Dukes return to action Friday at Georgetown. The match is set for a 3 p.m. start in Washington, D.C.
