RICHMOND, Va., April 6, 2011 - The James Madison men's tennis team swept conference honors this week, as sophomore Greg Vladimirsky (Coral Springs, Fla./Broward Virtual) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week, while Vladimirsky and junior Bertrand Moulin (Lyon, France/Aux Lazaristes Minimes (Wayne State)) garnered Doubles Team of the Week accolades.
"It's great for Greg and Bertrand to be recognized for their success last week," Head Coach Steve Secord said. "Greg has had some ups and downs, and he appears to be getting his game back on track and able to come through for the team win. It is also nice for Bertrand and Greg to have some success since they have only played a few matches together this spring. Now it gives us three solid teams that can help us win the doubles point."
Vladimirsky was the lone Duke to win in both singles and doubles action in JMU's 4-3 victory last Friday against Delaware. The sophomore clinched the team match for JMU as he rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win against UD's Courtney Scott at No. 1. He improved his dual record to 9-5 this season.
On the doubles side, Vladimirsky and Moulin were the only doubles team to pick up a victory against the Hens, with an 8-4 win at No. 1 against Troy Beneck and Andre Vorobyov. The duo is now 2-0 this spring when playing together in the top doubles spot.
This is the first time since March 30, 2010 when Mike Smith (2006-10) was named Co-Player of the Week that a JMU player earned the league's top weekly singles honor. It has been nearly four years since the Dukes had a doubles team last carry the weekly award when John Snead (2002-06) and Jesse Tarr (2004-08) were recognized on April 12, 2006.
JMU hits the court this afternoon at home against Howard. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. at Hillside Courts.
