HARRISONBURG, Va., March 22, 2011 - The James Madison (7-5) men's tennis team will be in action twice this week with one home and one road dual match. The Dukes will welcome Liberty to Hillside Courts Wednesday before rounding out the week at Longwood on Saturday.
The Dukes are coming off a 6-1 victory at home against Norfolk State (March 18). A pair of athletes went 2-0, as sophomores Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/Braemar (Chattanooga)) and Florent Sentenac (Borderes, France/Lycee Theophile Gautier (Auburn Montgomery)) each earned a win in singles and doubles.
Pool picked up an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles. Sentenac, along with senior teammate Yaroslav Voznenko (Kherson, Ukraine/Kherson Technical) secured the doubles point with an 8-5 decision at No. 3, and he cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
The Flames are 7-7 this season as they begin a string of three road trips this week against the Dukes. LU had won five straight until falling 4-3 at Georgia Southern on March 17. Last time JMU and Liberty met, the Dukes took a narrow 4-3 win in Lynchburg on March 18, 2010.
The Lancers enter its Friday match against George Washington with a 4-4 record this season. Longwood is coming off a 4-3 win at Coastal Carolina on March 13. Last season, JMU defeated Longwood 5-2 at home on March 21, 2010.
JMU's match against Liberty is set to begin at 2 p.m. and its match Longwood is set for a noon start.
