GREENVILLE, N.C., Sept. 22, 2013 – The James Madison men’s tennis team received wins from two doubles teams Sunday as it wrapped up play in the ECU Fall Shootout.

Due to inclement weather, doubles matches were moved to an indoor facility, and no singles matches were played on the final day of competition.

Sophomore Maxi Branth (Stockholm, Sweden/Tullinge Gymnasium), who finished a perfect 2-0 in singles play, teamed with freshman Mason Smith (Norfolk, Va./ Cape Henry Collegiate School) for a thrilling doubles win in the Gold Pod. The duo outlasted Coastal Carolina’s Hunter Whalen and Stefan Jakubov 8-7, winning 10-8 in the tiebreaker.

Branth and Smith improved to 2-1 in doubles play during the fall season.

Sophomore Robert Stirling (Caboolture, Australia/St. Columbans College) and freshman Brett Moorhead (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) posted their first doubles win, topping Calvin Mark and Blake Daniel 8-4.

The Dukes will have two weeks off before competing in the UVA Fall Classic in Charlottesville, Va. The three-day event begins on Friday, Oct. 4.
