Freshman Niels Kathol (Bonn, Germany/Collegium Josephinum Bonn), playing in the Pirate Pod, picked up his first career victory for the Dukes. He topped Navy freshman Krishna Jana 6-4, 6-1 to improve to 1-1 during the fall season.
Kathol was also a winner in doubles play, teaming with freshman Alex Berdnikoff (Calgary, Alberta/Edge School for Athletes) in an 8-4 win over the Coastal Carolina duo of Reanan Samed and Rick Timmerman.
The event was delayed three hours due to rain, which forced some of the matches to be played indoors. The round robin tournament concludes Sunday with a round of singles and doubles action beginning at 9 a.m.
