HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison men's golfer Rich Leeper recognized as finalist for finalist for the Gary ('81) and Fredericka (Cookie) McCollum Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award at the JMU Athletic Department's annual awards banquet held on campus, April 23.
Leeper has averaged 75.8 strokes in 13 rounds played this season, including three rounds of par or better. His best finish of the season was a tie for ninth at the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate, helping the Dukes take home the team championship. The junior from Chapel Hill, N.C., is majoring in kinesiology with a sport management concentration and has been a CAA Commissioner's Academic Award winner as well as a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.In his career at JMU, he has played in 50 rounds, averaging 75.8 strokes per round and posting a pair of top-10 finishes so far.
