In the final round, the Dukes matched their second-round score with a 7-over 295 to tie with Maryland at 19-over 883. Georgia posted the top final round with a 12-under 276 to overtake second round-leader Liberty and win the team title with a 30-under 834, three shots better than the Flames at 27-under 837. Host Old Dominion was next at 6-over 870, with Winthrop at 9-over 873 and George Washington's 11-over 875 rounding out the top five teams.
Freshman Trey Smith (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) led the Dukes for all three rounds and shot an even-par 72 in the final round to post his first career top-10 finish in a tie for 10th at even-par 216. Junior Ryan Vince (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) shot a 1-over 73 in the final 18 and tied for 26th at 4-over 220. Junior Rich Leeper (Chapel Hill, N.C./Carrboro) tallied a 3-over 75 in the final round and tied for 44th at 8-over 224. Senior Chris Wellde (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) was next with a 3-over 75 and tied for 55th at 11-over 227, while senior Mike Smith (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) was one shot behind at 12-over 228 in a tie for 60th after a final round 7-over 79.
Georgia's T.J. Mitchell finished off after leading through two rounds with a tournament-best final round 5-under 67 to win the medalist honors at 15-under 201, two shots clear of Liberty's Robert Karlsson at 13-under 203 after posting a final-round 4-under 68.
The Dukes will return to the course in 2012, opening the spring schedule at the UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate, Sun.-Mon., Feb. 26-27 in Wilmington, N.C.
