RICHMOND, Va. - James Madison's Chris Wellde, along with Georgia State's Tyler Gruca, and UNCW's Thomas Bass, earned CAA Men's Golfer of the Week honors
after their strong play last week. It is his first-ever weekly league honor.
Wellde won medalist honors after a playoff at the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate to help James Madison to a first-place team finish. The senior birdied the 18th hole in the final round to finish at 1-over 73 on the day and even-par 144 for the tournament (71-73) finishing in a four-way tie for the top spot. It was Wellde's first individual tournament victory, second career top-give, as well as his second-best 18-and 36-hole scores of his career. The event was played on the Fiddler's Elbow Country Club's par 72, 7,014-yard River Course.
JMU will wrap up its fall portion of the 2011-12 schedule on Sun.-Tue., Oct. 23-25 at the OBX/ODU Kilmarlic Collegiate Invitational in Kitty Hawk, N.C.
