HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison sophomore golfer Ryan Vince (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team as voted by the league's head coaches.
Playing in 11 tournaments in 2010-11, Vince led JMU with an average round score of 73.63, ranking him fifth among all CAA golfers. His scoring average ranks as the seventh-best at JMU since 1993-94 and his current career scoring mark of 73.89 in 47 rounds played ranks second in that time period. He recorded 13 rounds at par or better, the most in school history since 1993-94, including six rounds under par with two rounds in the 60's. Vince's 11.33 pars per round ranks 184th of 3,349 golfers and his 1.93 score versus par is good for fifth in the CAA. He also led Madison to a 297.33 scoring average as a team, the third-best scoring average since 1993-94.
Vince led the Dukes in five tournaments this season, including playoff victory over teammate Chris Wellde (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) in the C&F Bank Intercollegiate. Vince shot back-to-back sub-par rounds on his way to winning the C&F Bank, leading the Dukes to the tournament title with a team score of 4-under 572 and earning his first CAA Player of the Week honor of his career. His first-round 1-under 71 and second-round 2-under 70 set him up for the first win of his career with a 3-under 141, a career 36-hole best. Vince posted four top-10 finishes as well as finishing as the top Duke at six events, including the C&F Bank, Richmond Intercollegiate, Seminole Intercollegiate, Rutherford Intercollegiate, CAA Championship and Cavalier Classic.
This marks the first time in his career that Vince has been honored by the CAA.
