MEN'S GOLF TIES FOR 13TH AT 2011 JU INVITATIONAL

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- James Madison University's men's golf team tied for 13th at the 2011 JU Invitational hosted by Mark McCumber, Jan. 31-Feb. 1. Hosted by Jacksonville University, the two-day, 54-hole tournament was played at the PLAYERS Stadium Course at the TPC at Sawgrass (Par 72 - 7,122 yards) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

James Madison posted its best round of the tournament in the final 18, shooting a 299 to finish at 933 in a tie with host Jacksonville at 933. Florida dominated the field with a 6-under 858, winning the team title by 25 shots over runner-up North Florida at 883. Jacksonville State and Liberty tied for third at 22-over 886, with Clemson rounding out the top five at 24-over 888.

The Dukes were led by junior Chad Mozingo (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County), who tied for 35th at 13-over 229, with sophomore Rich Leeper (Chapel Hill, N.C./Carrboro) next in a tie for 47th at 17-over 233. Sophomore Ryan Vince (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) was next in a tie for 49th at 18-over 234. Junior Mike Smith (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) finished 66th at 31-over 247, with freshman Tucker Koch (Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep) the final Madison player in 68th at 33-over 249. Florida's Bank Vongvnaij took home medalist honors at 5-under 211, two shots better than runner-up Robert Karlsson of Liberty at 3-under 213.

Madison will next be on the course Sun.-Tue., March 6-8 at the Barefoot at the Beach Intercollegiate. The tournament will be played at Surf Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
