Men's Golf Leads Through 36 Holes of Joe Agee Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The James Madison men’s golf team has put together two very solid rounds and is the 36-hole leader at the Joe Agee Invitational, Sept. 30. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by William & Mary, is being played at the Williamsburg Country Club (Par 71 - 6,822 yards) in Williamsburg, Va.

The Dukes posted a 2-over 286 in the opening round and was one shot behind Towson but improved four shots to 2-under 282 in the afternoon and is at even-par 568, two shots better than the Tigers. William & Mary is in third at 8-over 576, with Saint Joseph’s at 17-over 585 and Fairleigh Dickinson at 18-over 586 rounding out the top five teams.

Freshman Poom Pattaropong (Minburi, Bangkok, Thailand) continues his impressive early play, posting back-to-back 1-under 70 scores to currently sit in a tie for fourth at 1-under 140. Junior Jon Weiss (Florence, S.C./Sumter (Newberry)) is one shot back at 1-under 141 after an opening round even-par 71 followed by a 1-under 70. Freshman Ryan Cole (Mount Airy, Md.) is currently tied for seventh at 1-over 143, including an even-par 71 in the second 18. Junior Trey Smith (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) is tied for 10th at 2-over 144, also posting an even-par 71 in the afternoon. Senior Tucker Koch (Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep) rounds out the team scores at 9-over 151, tied for 35th. Playing as an individual, sophomore Chris Kapsak is tied for 16th at 4-over 146, including an even-par 71 in the first 18.

William & Mary’s Alex Hicks is the leader after a pair of 5-under 66s put him at 10-under 132, four shots clear of Sam Stewart of Towson at 6-under 136.

The Dukes will go after the team title Tuesday, playing with CAA foes Towson and William & Mary in the final pairings.
