The Dukes could not find a rhythm on the final day, finishing with a 39-over 327 to post a 54-hole total of 88-over 952. Virginia Tech overcame a seven-shot deficit heading into the final round by shooting a final-round best 3-over 291 for a three-round score of 14-over 878, nine shots better than second-round leader and runner-up Wichita State at 23-over 887. Long Beach State moved up to third at 24-over 888, with Maryland at 27-over 891 and Iowa State at 30-over 894 rounding out the top five schools.

Sophomore Trey Smith (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) led the Dukes in a tie for 33rd at 14-over 230. Junior Ben Firebaugh (Roanoke, Va./William Byrd (Newberry)) was next in a tie for 54th at 22-over 238. Madison will quickly return to tournament competition Sat.-Sun., Sept. 29-30 as the Dukes compete in the Patriot Intercollegiate, hosted by George Mason, at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va.
