HARRISONBURG, Va., June 11, 2013 – Four preseason tournaments, including two at home in Sinclair Gymnasium, 13 non-conference matches and a full slate of Colonial Athletic Association play highlight the fall schedule for the James Madison volleyball team that was announced by head coach Lauren Steinbrecher on Tuesday.
JMU is scheduled to play 27 regular-season matches. The Dukes host 13 matches at Sinclair Gymnasium in Harrisonburg, Va., while playing 10 times on the road and four times at a neutral site.
“I cannot wait to get this group on the court competing in August,” Steinbrecher said. “We are hosting two exciting tournaments for our fans here in Harrisonburg. Both weekends feature teams that were competitive in several different conferences last season. I am also very excited to play several ACC opponents in preseason as we work hard to position ourselves as one of the most competitive programs in the region.”
Madison opens its season on August 30-31 in Charlottesville, Va., as it plays in the Cavalier Classic at the University of Virginia. Joining the Dukes and the Cavaliers in Charlottesville are Montana and Marshall.
JMU also plays in a tournament at North Carolina, taking on UNC, Albany and George Washington in the Carolina Classic on Sept. 13-14. The only other non-conference road game for JMU is at Radford on Sept. 10.
The first of two Madison home tournaments, the JMU Classic, occurs Sept. 6-7 and sees JMU facing Wyoming, CSU Bakersfield and Presbyterian. The Dukes return home on Sept. 20-21 to take on Wake Forest Campbell and Cleveland State in the JMU Invitational.
