GREENSBORO, N.C., May 25, 2013 – At her final NCAA East Preliminary meet, James Madison track & field senior Katie Harman (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) finished the 5,000-meter run in 16:50.22 to take 35th place out of 46 runners. She competed in the first heat of the event, finishing 15th out of 22 runners.
Harman holds the third-best time in JMU history for the 5,000-meter run, a mark of 16:29.28 she posted earlier this year.
The top five runners in each of the two heats as well as the next best two times qualified for the NCAA Championships. The top mark came at 15:58.72 from Providence’s Emily Sisson while Virginia’s Barbara Strehler was the final qualifier at 16:07.70 the eighth-best overall time of the day. William & Mary’s Emily Stites will represent the Colonial Athletic Association after tallying a fifth-place finish in the second heat with a time of 16:12.82.
