Dukes Advance Three Individuals and One Relay Team to Finals at ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J., May 12, 2012 - After the second of three days of competition at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, the James Madison track and field team has had three athletes and one relay team advance to Sunday's final day of competition.

In the 100-meter dash preliminaries, sophomore Jordan Simmons (Plainfield, N.J./Bishop Ahr) finished fourth overall.  Finishing the race in 11.98 seconds, she advanced to the semifinal portion of the competition.  In the semifinal round, Simmons ran the course in 11.96 and advanced once again.  She will compete in the finals of the 100-meter competition tomorrow at 1:15 p.m.

Junior Katie Harman (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) competed in the 1,500-meter run preliminaries on Saturday.  Harman advanced to Sunday's finals with a time of 4:28.68, good for second overall in the preliminary round.

Also advancing to Sunday's finals was Colonial Athletic Association 800-meter Champion, junior Annie Reiner (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes).  Reiner finished eighth in the preliminary round of the 800-meter competition with a time of 2:07.54.

Madison's final advancing group was the 4x800-meter relay team.  Freshmen Kristen Landry (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) and Tiel Westbrook (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) followed by senior Brittany Wilhelm (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) and freshman Erin Lopresti (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) finished third in Saturday's preliminaries.  The team finished in 8:57.53 and will compete in Sunday's finals.

Also joining Saturday's competitors in Sunday's final round will be junior Danyelle Kent-Robinson and senior Jaclyn Smith (Arlington, Va./Yorktown).  Kent-Robinson gets Sunday's final round started in the high jump at 10 a.m. while Smith follows in the triple jump at 11 a.m.

Other JMU competitors on Saturday were junior Marissa McDonald (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), freshman Jasmine Waddell (Mount Royal, N.J./Kingsway Regional), sophomores Ashley Williams (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Ciarra Morris (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) and junior Whitney Staton (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor).

McDonald competed in the long jump competition.  She finished 12th overall with a leap of 5.49 meters (18'0.25") while Waddell competed in the 100-meter hurdles.  Her time of 15.13 placed her 23rd overall in the preliminary round.

Williams and Morris competed alongside McDonald and Simmons in the 4x100-meter relay trials.  The team finished the race in 10th place with a time of 46.61, just outside the advancing range.  Staton competed with Smith, Morris and Simmons in the 4x400-meter relay trials.  The team crossed the line in 3:48.81.  The time earned the team an 18th-place finish and did not qualify them for finals.
