PHILADELPHIA, Pa., April 27, 2012 - The James Madison track and field team competed in three different events on day two at the Penn Relays on Friday. It was the final day of competition at the event for Madison and all Dukes had a good showing.
In the 4x200-meter relay, the Dukes finished 25th out of 51 teams. The team consisting of junior Marissa McDonald (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) and sophomores Jordan Simmons (Plainfield, N.J./Bishop Ahr), Ashley Williams (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Ciarra Morris (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) finished the race in 1:40.59, fifth in its heat.
In the sprint medley relay, senior Jaclyn Smith (Arlington, Va./Yorktown), junior Whitney Staton (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor), freshman Destiny Simmons (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) and senior Brittany Wilhelm (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) finished sixth in their heat. The team crossed the line in 4:08.96, good for 31st out of 41 teams.
Smith also competed in the triple jump at Penn. The senior leapt 12.15 meters (39'10.5"), placing fourth out of 19 competitors. The mark also met ECAC-qualifying standards.
The Dukes return to action Friday, May 4 at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships in Fairfax, Va.
