PHILADELPHIA, April 29, 2011 - The James Madison track and field team wrapped up its competition at the 2011 Penn Relays on Friday evening at Franklin Field.
JMU's 400-meter relay team of sophomore Marissa McDonald (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) and freshmen Jordan Simmons (Plainfield, N.J./Bishop Ahr), Ashley Williams (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Ciarra Morris (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) finished in 10th place in the College race with a time of 46.71 seconds.
The foursome improved from yesterday's ECAC-qualifying time of 47.08 seconds, which placed the Dukes 30th in the heated race.
In the triple jump, junior Jaclyn Smith (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) completed the event in 14th place after she had a leap measuring 11.92 meters (39'1 1/4").
The Dukes' sprint medley relay squad of junior Aubrie McAlpine (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone), sophomore Gabrielle Poore (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson), sophomore Whitney Staton and sophomore Annie Reiner (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) took 20th in the Championship of America race with a time of 4:03.95.
McAlpine, Simmons, Williams and Morris also rounded out the top 25 in the 800-meter relay after crossing the line in 1:40.23.
JMU returns to action next weekend for the Colonial Athletic Association Championship at VCU's Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va.
