HARRISONBURG, Va., April 27, 2011 - James Madison will send 15 track and field student-athletes to compete in 10 events at the 2011 Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
The meet runs from Thursday to Saturday, but due to finals and preparation for the Colonial Athletic Association Championship on May 6-7 in Richmond, Va., the Dukes will be in action just Thursday and Friday.
JMU has three relay squads, three distance runners and a jumper who are entered on Thursday's slate.
The tandem consisting of sophomore Marissa McDonald (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), and freshmen Jordan Simmons (Plainfield, N.J./Bishop Ahr), Ashley Williams (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Ciarra Morris (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) will run in the 400-meter relay.
Marissa McDonald will also be in the pit for the long jump competition.
In the distance medley relay, sophomore Katie Harman (Clarksville, Md./River Hill), junior Aubrie McAlpine (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone), junior Brittany Wilhelm (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) and sophomore Annie Reiner (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) will run for the Dukes.
Sophomore Maria McDonald (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), junior Jaclyn Smith (Arlington, Va./Yorktown), sophomore Whitney Staton (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) and sophomore Gabrielle Poore (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) are entered in the 1,600-meter relay.
In the night cap, senior Kelly Jemison (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) will be in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, senior Alison Parris (Saint Leonard, Md./Patuxent) will run in the 5,000-meter race and sophomore Katie Gorman (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) will take on the 10,000-meter run.
On Friday, JMU has a pair of relay teams and one jumper in action.
McAlpine, Simmons, Williams and Morris are set to compete in the 800-meter relay, while McAlpine, Poore, Maria McDonald and Wilhelm will be in the sprint medley relay.
Smith, the reigning CAA Co-Field Athlete of the Week, will try to improve on last weekend's personal-best mark in the triple jump on Friday.
