Alison Parris (Saint Leonard, Md./Patuxent) was honored as the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.RICHMOND, Va., April 12, 2011 - James Madison senior
The senior recorded a personal-best and ECAC-qualifying time in the 5,000-meter run at last weekend's Mason Spring Invitational. She completed the race in third place with a time of 16 minutes, 43.94 second, which ranks as the fourth-fastest mark in JMU outdoor track history. In addition, she currently ranks 29th on the NCAA East Region list and third among CAA athletes for the event.
"Alison had a solid race at George Mason," Assistant Track and Field Coach Dave Rinker said. "She's coming around nicely in regards to her training. By the conference championships she should be peaking nicely."
Parris is a three-time All-CAA cross country athlete and the current CAA Cross Country Athlete of the Year after winning the individual titles at the conference meet and ECAC Championships.
Northeastern's Althea Charles was also honored by the CAA on Tuesday, as she was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
The Dukes return to action Saturday at the VCU Invitational in Richmond, Va.
