Bulling Named Academic All-America Third Team for Division I At-Large

TOWSON, Md., June 8, 2013 – James Madison women’s tennis senior Katherine Bulling (Loveland, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) was chosen as a member of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division I At-Large Third Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Academic All-America teams are comprised of varsity starters and key reserve players in at least their second year of competition who maintain a grade point average (GPA) above a 3.30.  The women’s at-large team for the Capital One Academic All-America program pulls from 13 NCAA sports, including: bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis and water polo.

Bulling graduated this spring with a dual degree in history and English and a 3.97 GPA.  She is a two-time JMU Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year (2012, 2013) and a three-time International Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete as well as an Academic All-State player.  In May 2012, she published her research on the formation of slave religion in Appalachian State’s research journal History Matters: An Undergraduate Journal of Historical Research.

A native of Loveland, Ohio, Bulling completed her playing career with a 66-39 (.629) overall record.  She went 18-8 during her senior campaign in singles play and secured a slot on the all-conference third team with a 12-4 spring record.
