SB’s Ford Set to Play with Junior National Team at ISF World Championship

GLENVILLE, W. Va., June 24, 2013 – James Madison softball rising sophomore pitcher/first baseman Jailyn Ford (Hot Springs, Va./Bath County) has arrived in Glenville, W. Va., to begin training for the 2013 International Softball Federation (ISF) X World Fastpitch Championship this week.

Ford is one of 17 players selected for the USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team that will head to Brampton, Ontario, Canada next week to compete for the gold. The team competes in Glenville in some preparation exhibition games this evening before departing for Canada. Along with the exhibition games in Glenville, the West Virginia Amateur Softball Association is hosting a youth clinic on June 25. Joining Ford on the Junior National Team is Ali Guilar (High School), ErinGabriel (Tennessee), Andrea Hawkins (Alabama), Cheridan Hawkins (Oregon), Sierra Lawrence (Michigan), Haylie McCleney (Alabama), Danica Mercado (Oregon), Jessica Plaza (Stanford), Erin Shireman (Texas), Lee Ann Spivey (South Florida), Lauren Young (Arizona), Paige McDuffee (UCLA), Sierra Romero (Michigan), Mysha Sataraka (UCLA), Kelsey Stewart (Florida) and Emily Crane (Missouri).

The team is coached by Tairia Flowers, the head coach at Cal State Northridge. She is assisted by four-time Olympian Laura Berg, Trisha Ford and Lisa Dodd. Berg coaches Oregon State, Ford leads Fresno State and Dodd mans the helm for UNLV.

Joining the United States in the 16-team field at the World Championship includes Australia, Brazil, Botswana, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore and Venezuela.

Team USA opens up the tournament against Great Britain on July 1 at 8 a.m. CST and will continue pool play through July 4. Elimination play begins at 10:30 p.m. CST on July 5 and ends with the Gold Medal game at 1 p.m. on July 7.
