HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison men’s golfers Trey Smith (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) and Rich Leeper (Chapel Hill, N.C./Carrboro) have been named First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association, announced today by the league office. The squad was selected by the league’s head men’s golf coaches.

Smith led the Dukes in scoring average this season, averaging 73.64 strokes in 10 events and 28 rounds played, the ninth-best average since 1993-94. Smith posted a victory in the Golfweek Division I Program Challenge to open the season, garnering CAA Golfer of the Week honors, and added two more top-10 finishes throughout the season. The sophomore had a team-best 10 rounds of par or better, including a career-low 5-under 66 in the final round of the Bash at the Beach and had a 54-hole career-best 11-under 205 at the Golfweek Challenge, tied for fourth lowest in school history. Smith was also runner-up at the Bash at the Beach, posting an 8-under 205. For his career, Smith has played in 51 rounds and averaged 74.67 strokes per round, currently fourth for JMU in career score versus par.

Leeper  was second on the team in scoring, posting a 74.33 average in nine tournaments and 24 rounds of competition. The senior had nine rounds of par or better and four top-10 finishes, including a tournament victory at the Bash at the Beach. His career-low 9-under 204 at the Bash earned him medalist honors by one shot over Smith as well as CAA Golfer of the Week recognition, with the mark the third-lowest 54-hole score in program history. Leeper also tied for fifth at the CAA Tournament, earning All-Tournament honors. He is currently at 75.35 in 74 career rounds, finishing his career ninth in JMU scoring average.

Madison finished the 2012-13 season as the CAA Tournament runner-up,  improving six spots on last year's finish and had their best finish since also being runner-up at the 2000 championship.
