Landry Leads Track & Field on Day One of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C., March 29, 2013 – Sophomore Kristen Landry (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) posted a third-place finish in section four of the 1,500-meter run at the Raleigh Relays on Friday to lead the James Madison track & field squad on day one of competition on the east coast.

Landry crossed the line in 4:35.51, less than two seconds behind the winner of the section four 1,500-meter run.  She set a personal record in the event, breaking her previous time of 4:39.85.  In sections five-ten of the 1,500-meter run, freshman Kathleen Stewart (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) posted a 4:49.95 time to come in 44th out of 130 athletes.

The shot put competition featured a ninth-place finish out of 66 by sophomore DaQuaa Scott (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) with her 13.26-meter heave.  Freshman Adrienne Alexander (Queens, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) took 20th place with her toss of 12.67 meters, and junior Kristen Greene (Colonial Heights, Va./Thomas Dale) rounded out the competition with a 31st-place finish at 12.10 meters.

Sophomore Destiny Simmons (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) ran a personal-best 56.88 seconds in the 400-meter dash on Friday for a 29th-place finish out of 140 runners.  Senior Maria McDonald (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) logged a 59.22-second time in 75th place, and fellow senior Jaime Lott (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) was just behind her in 92nd-place with a time of 1:00.12.  In her outdoor 400-meter debut, freshman Anna Harpster (Lovettsville, Va./Woodgrove) clocked a 1:01.01 time and finished 106th.

Day One of Stanford Invitational
In Palo Alto, Calif., senior Katie Harman (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) highlighted the first day of competition with a personal-best time of 16:29.28 in the 5,000-meter run, the third-best time in James Madison history.  She finished 18th out of 26 runners competing in section two of the event.  In section four of 5,000-meter run, senior Stacey Nobles (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) finished 19th out of 23 competitors with a time of 17:45.47.

Senior Annie Reiner (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) finished seventh out of nine in section five of the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:33.45.  Junior Erin Lopresti (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) ran a 4:36.21 in section seven of the 1,500-meter event, taking ninth place out of 17 runners.

Competition in both locations wraps up on Saturday, March 30.  Track events at the Raleigh Relays begin at 9:30 a.m. while collegiate events at the Stanford Invitational get underway at 3:10 p.m. eastern time.
